Performing Artists

Matta Fest is blessed by many gifted performing artists who gererously share their amazing talents with all who come to celebrate Spring and Mama Nature. There are well seasoned artists along with people who are experiencing their debut performance. All are greeted with warmth and appreciation. We are truly blessed! <3 <3 <3

Featured below are some of our regular performers. We are in the process of gathering pictures and artist statements. Yet we also realize pictures and words do not do them justice. Their beautiful energy cannot be captured in mere pixels. Come and enjoy their offerings in person!

Amanda Syryda of Hip Flick Hoops is based out of Grande Prairie, Alberta.  After starting her hoop dance journey in 2009, learning through online classes and YouTube videos, she pioneered the hoop dance movement in the Grande Prairie area and quickly turned her passion into a career.  Hip Flick Hoops provides weekly hoop dance classes, handmade custom hoops and entertainment services. From Hoopy Birthday parties to roving characters and stage shows, Hip Flick Hoops is a one stop shop for hoop dance entertainment.  Fun, funky and bright, Amanda is known for her fluid hoop dance flow and colourful characters, often seen as her alter ego, Mandi the Clown.  Amanda is currently publishing a picture book based of Mandi the Clown entitled "Mandi the Clown and the Hula Hoop Circus", visit her website to see how you can get a copy!   www.hipflickhoops.com

The Circus of Hell performance troupe is built around the fires of creativity and passion. It was founded by married couple Doug and Susan Thompson. The couple, who also co-own Hell 'N' Back Welding Ltd., realized they could build and perform with their own fire props, and Circus of Hell was born. Their performances grew as they added new skills like fire eating & fire breathing, and new fire & LED props. Today, they are a family circus, performing across northern Alberta and BC with their two daughters, Trinity and Aurora, who are accomplished performers in their own right, as well as a roster of performer friends. For Circus of Hell, Matta Fest is the magical start of the festival season and the first significant shared ritual of fire, dance and fun.

                                                       CIRCLES

Crystal Bowls tone the circle with the vibration of harmony under the guidance of Kortenay from Avara Holistics. Feel the tones of the chakras tingle up your spine.

Circle Dance has always been apart of Matta Fest and is usually done after the May Pole weaving. Songs and dances from around the world ranging from reggae to folk and roots. The dances are taught to all who want to participate and welcome Spring. Embrace the gypsy spirit join hands and kick off your shoes to touch Mama Nature with your toes.

A Drumming Circle is in progress on and off through out the day. Different individuals set the rhythm and beat for all to join in. There is no need to wait for an invite just find a drum and play away. However we do ask that people remove any rings they are wearing before using the hands drums, to prevent harm to the drum head.

The Jamming Circle is ongoing through out the day as a background of melody and fun. Bring an instrument and join Mitch to keep the  groove going.

A Labyrinth Circle walk is laid out on the grass for those who want to quietly contemplate or take a meditative walk in the middle  of a loving circle of celebration.
